Career

Carlos Moreno Clemente researcher and lecturer in security communication and events

My career began in audiovisual production and communication, but it was working on large-scale events that I understood the attendee experience goes far beyond the stage: it starts before arrival and ends after departure.

That conviction led me to specialise in event security, first with the Master’s, then with the PhD, to understand how communication and security mutually reinforce each other in high-density environments. Today I research, teach and advise on that intersection.

There was a specific moment, working on a large-scale event, when I realised something was failing in how the industry conceived security: it was planned as a protocol, not as an experience. Attendees lived it, felt it, judged it, but nobody communicated it. That gap between what was done and what was perceived became my professional obsession. I decided to train in private security and crowd management not to move away from communication, but to unite both disciplines from within.

The cum laude doctorate at UCM was the attempt to demonstrate with academic rigour what I had seen in the field for years. Researching, publishing and debating with other experts gave me perspective and vocabulary to explain something I until then only knew how to do. That stage also led me to university classrooms, first as a guest, then as a regular collaborator, and to co-found the International Congress on Communication and Security in Events (CCSE). A path that today makes complete sense: every day I apply in the front line everything I have spent years researching and teaching.
